Notices change every recruitment cycle and differ between bodies. Each preset fills fields you can see and change, and the source and date are shown with it. A row marked unverified rests on a secondary page: check it against your notification.
Limits
- No face detection runs. The crop is placed by you, with the stage showing exactly what is cut.
- Background colour is not changed. If a notice asks for a white background, it has to be photographed that way.
- A file that cannot reach a KB floor without padding is reported, not padded.
Questions
Which sizes are built in?
The bank and recruitment set published in IPPB's online application guidelines (photo 200 × 230 px at 20–50 KB, signature 140 × 60 px at 10–20 KB, left thumb 240 × 240 px and declaration 800 × 400 px at 200 DPI), plus UPSC and SSC rows. The UPSC and SSC figures come from secondary pages and are marked unverified on screen: confirm them against the current notice.
What does the form check look at?
Four things, each on its own line: the pixel size, the file length against the KB window, the resolution tag written into the JPEG (JFIF and Exif), and the format. The kilobytes are measured on the file that is actually saved, after the tag is written, not estimated before it.
Is 20 KB 20,000 bytes or 20,480?
Portals rarely say. The search reads each end the strict way: the ceiling as N × 1000 bytes, the floor as N × 1024 bytes, so the file passes under either reading. The receipt shows the byte count as well as the KB.
My photo comes out under the minimum. What now?
Quality is raised first, up to 1.00. If a 200 × 230 JPEG still cannot reach 20 KB — a plain background compresses very well — the check says so in figures. Padding the file with junk bytes to cross the floor is not done; it adds no image data, and some portals inspect for it.
How is the photo cut to 200 × 230?
By fill and crop: the picture is scaled until it covers the box, and the overflow is cut. The placement sliders move the kept box so the face stays inside it; the shaded strips on the stage are what will be removed.
