  • Every platform re-encodes uploads; matching the pixel size avoids a second resample, not their compression.
  • Safe zones (where a platform overlays buttons or crops for mobile) are not drawn.

Questions

What size is a WhatsApp profile photo?

WhatsApp shows the DP as a circle cut from a square, so a square picture is what matters; 640 × 640 px is a widely used size and is labelled “common”. Keep the face in the middle: the corners are hidden.

What size is a YouTube thumbnail?

1280 × 720 px (16:9) is the widely used size, and the channel banner 2560 × 1440. Both are labelled “common” here because they were not re-checked against YouTube's help pages in this release.

Where do these sizes come from?

Each row says. None of the rows on this page was confirmed against the platform's own help text when it was checked, so each is labelled “common size” rather than presented as a rule. Platforms change their layouts; the fields stay editable on the Pixels panel.

Should I pad or crop a banner?

Banners are very wide, so a normal photo loses most of its height when filled. Pad keeps all of it on a colour or a blurred copy; fill and crop uses the full banner and lets you slide the kept strip up or down.
