Signature presets
| Form | Pixels | KB | Status |
|---|---|---|---|
| Bank / recruitment signature | 140 × 60 | 10–20 | sourced |
| PAN application signature | 354 × 157 | ≤ 10 | sourced |
| UPSC signature | 350 × 150 | 20–100 | unverified |
| SSC signature | 472 × 236 | 10–20 | unverified |
A signature box is wide and short, so a signature cropped tight to its ink is usually close to the right shape already; fill and crop then removes only a sliver. Move the placement sliders if the cut falls across a letter.
Limits
- Uneven lighting across a phone photo is not corrected; the threshold treats a shadow as paper or ink depending on how dark it is.
- Ruled or printed lines near the signature count as ink and widen the crop. Cover them, or crop by hand first.
Questions
How does it find the signature on the page?
It reads the scan's brightness: the paper is taken as the 90th-percentile luminance, and anything darker than 70 % of it counts as ink. The crop is the box around the ink plus a margin of 4 % of its longer side. It is a fixed rule, so the same scan always crops the same way.
What does “Lift faint contrast” change?
A levels stretch: the paper's brightness is taken to white and the darkest one per cent of the ink to black, on all three channels equally, so blue ink stays blue. A scan that already runs from black to white is left alone.
Why 140 × 60 px?
It is the preferred signature size in IPPB's online application guidelines, with a window of 10–20 KB. PAN applications through Protean ask for 2 × 4.5 cm at 200 DPI and up to 10 KB, which is 354 × 157 px. UPSC and SSC rows rest on secondary pages and are marked unverified.
Will it make a photo of my signature look scanned?
It will crop it, whiten the ground and stretch the contrast, which is most of the difference. It does not remove shadows across the page or straighten a skewed photo; photograph the signature flat and evenly lit for the cleanest result.
What happens to the original file?
Nothing. The prepared signature replaces the open picture in this tab as a PNG, the preset is applied to it, and the export writes a new JPEG. Your file on disk is not touched, and nothing is sent anywhere.
